Our Story

The TeensyHumans have always been known as a… quirky bunch.

We tend toward the punk rock and more colorful lifestyle, which includes being very creative. When the Pandemic hit, we decided to help out other parents with stay-at-home kids that would get bored. We did some soul searching, and came up with the idea for subscription based sewing kits for kids, which would not only foster creativity, but also boost fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. We also figured, sewing is one of those really useful life skills, right? Hence, our new Monster Makes line of sewing kits. Monsters are bright, fun, and geared for all genders.

It all began at the circus.

Well, sort of. Years ago, I (Blue) flexed my degree in fashion design creating circus costumes. After years of touring on and off with circuses and other performances, I settled down-ish to have a daughter, but the creative energy kept flowing. Whether I was crafting handmade faeries or stitching punk rock kids clothes, my daughter, Kiwi—whose name also hails from the circus—-always watched me closely.

Like mother, like daughter: Kiwi demanded I teach her to sew. At only three years old, she sewed her first bag on a sewing machine.

Talented as she is, unattended three-year-olds using sewing machines isn’t the best idea. For the well-being of both my daughter and my sewing machine, I decided to teach Kiwi hand sewing skills so she could sit and create all on her own. Considering my background, I wanted her to learn to sew on something more creative than standard kids’ crafts projects.

And so, monsters were born.
